EXPO50 offers a number of FREE seminars on relevant medical and legal topics for the aging and their caregivers. We encourage you to take advantage of these free seminars. Each seminar is 50 minutes in length and allows for Q&A from the audience. All seminars start on the hour and the first seminar begins at 10:00 a.m. The seminars are not sales presentations, but are designed for educational purposes only.
10:00 to 10:50 a.m. - Health Care Decisions Legal Seminar: This seminar will help you understand the importance of having a living will, health care power of attorney, advance care plan, do not resuscitate order or physician orders for scope of treatment. You will learn which documents you need and how to tell the difference between them. The presenter will explain how these documents operate, how to ensure their enforcement and what happens to people that have not signed one of these documents. You will also learn how to talk with your family about your desires for health care and end of life decisions. Issues regarding the use of durable powers of attorney and the conservatorships process will be covered as well. Presented by Attorney Dana Perry, with Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel, P.C.
11:00 to 11:50 a.m. - Estate Administration Legal Seminar: This seminar will cover the estate administration and probate process. Several questions will be answered such as: What is probate? What is estate administration? Are both required? I’m an executor, what do I have to do? I’m a beneficiary, when do I get my money? I’m a surviving spouse, can I get more? Is there an easier way? The presenter will cover what legally happens upon the death of a loved one and how to manage the probate process. You will learn the powers an executor has and does not have and what rights beneficiaries and surviving spouses have. Presented by Attorney Robert M. "Mark" Addison, with Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel, P.C.
12:00 to 12:50 a.m. - Estate Planning Legal Seminar: This seminar will explain how to develop a good estate plan. You will learn the difference between a will and a revocable living trust, how to name beneficiaries of retirement plans and life insurance policies, and how to title assets in order to make the probate process as easy as possible. The presenter will discuss how to keep your estate affairs out of the public record and how to make sure all of your estate planning documents will be respected. You will also hear the difference between Federal and Tennessee death taxes and how these taxes can be avoided. Presented by Attorney Glen Stophel, with Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel, P.C.
2:00 to 2:50 p.m. - Forever Young Lens Medical Seminar: Dr. Wang will describe the latest advances in laser vision correction, to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and for reading. He was a former consultant to USA FDA Ophthalmic Device and was a primary reviewer for the first US FDA approval for LASIK. Dr. Wang introduced the bladeless LASIK to the state and has been performing all of his LASIK procedures using this state-of-the-art technology since 2002, longer than 99% of the LASIK surgeons in US today.
